Brief explanation of Section 508

Section 508 (29 U.S.C. 794d) requires that federal agencies’ Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) is accessible to people with disabilities, including employees and members of the public, comparable to that provided to the public who are not individuals with disabilities. Section 508 establishes requirements for any EIT developed, maintained, procured, or used by the federal government. The term EIT is defined by the Access Board in regulations published December 2000.
